MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE

To fabricate products using a variety of tools and equipment according to required specifications for the Glas-Dor department.

KEY TASKS
  • To fabricate steel security doors/glass doors including assembly of internal parts.
  • To ensure product quality through effective quality management systems, processes and standard operating procedures.
  • To bond security doors using adhesives and heat press.
  • To dress welds to a standard suitable to progress to powder coating.
  • To complete all necessary documentation for the machine for safety and production.
  • To adhere to the production schedule.
  • To promote a safe working environment and a good standard of housekeeping.
  • To safely operate lifting equipment, cranes and slinging items (training provided).
  • To monitor and maintain high quality standards.
  • To produce fault free products.
  • To achieve daily targets.
  • Fabrication/welding of doors and components following production drawings.
  • Assist in stock-taking of critical components and raw materials.
  • Comply with Health & Safety standards.
  • Ensure high standards of quality.
  • Provide support to Glas-Dor Supervisor and the Management team.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy and organised working environment.
  • Liaise with other team members.
  • Ensure personal targets are met.
  • Adhere to schedule to ensure company/personal targets are met by all within Team.
  • Report amount of downtime and cause.
  • Assist in other areas of the Business when necessary.

KEY REQUIREMENTS FOR ROLE
  • Good written and verbal communication.
  • Continuous learning and development.
  • Knowledge and use of handheld power tools.
  • Reading and understanding technical 2D drawings.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment with fast changing priorities.
  • Over the set timescales showing progression through Training Matrix requirements.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
  • Experience in following a production schedule to maintain product lead time through delivering components on time to the next process.
  • MIG welding experience.
  • Working with thin gauge material from 1.2mm up to 5mm.
  • Using cranes or slinging.
  • Detail-conscious.
  • Ability to take ownership of tasks through to completion.
  • Flexible approach.
  • A good understanding of sheet metal fabrication machinery and production.
  • Ideally experienced in Door Manufacturing.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment with fast changing priorities.
  • Achieve / exceed set production targets / KPIs.
  • Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to Management.
  • Adhering to quality and safety standards and keeping detailed part records.
  • Ideally familiar with modern manufacturing processes and total quality improvement.
  • Must have linishing skills.

    MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    The role of the Assembly Operative will achieve results in the following key areas, in conjunction with the other assembly operatives, planners, fabrication, powder and stores teams, in order to fulfil the overall job purpose.  This is not an exhaustive list.
    • To assemble doors of varying sizes with various hardware to be attached.
    • To use hand and air tools to assemble products.
    • To meet daily production targets.
    • To achieve required quality standards.
    • To follow health and safety processes and procedures.
    • To resolve assembly issues efficiently.
    • To liaise with Supervisors.
    • To follow manual handling procedures when lifting and carrying doors.
    • Ensure Health & Safety procedures are adhered to, that a safety-first culture is embedded and respected.
    • Ensure Quality procedures are adhered to, that continuous improvement and a right first time better every time mentality is encouraged.
    This role may involve the requirement for a reasonable amount of overtime.
     

    PERSON SPECIFICATION

    Knowledge & Experience
    Experience within a manufacturing assembly environment. Experience in working to set operative procedures and quality standards.
     
    Skills
    • Competent use of hand and air tools (grinder, drill, screwdriver, tape measure).
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (specifically MS Excel).
    • High attention to detail.
    • High level of accuracy.
    • Good hand-eye coordination.
     
    Qualifications   Essential:
        • Maths and English.
